Chapter 16: The Reunion

Some places look like memory before they become story.

This is The Reunion — photographed on the beach in Isabela, Puerto Rico, though it could just as easily be my hometown, or the fictionalized Inlet where Ryan Callahan’s story begins.

A surfboard in the sand. Sunlight on the water. A shoreline that feels familiar even when it is not the same one. This image holds the strange ache of return: how some places become mirrors for every place we have ever loved.
